OVERVIEW

Following the SADC DRR Conference in 2018, the continental and regional hydromet forums (2017-2021), the World Bank will host the SADC Hydromet Forum in partnership with the Southern African Development Community, European Union, World Meteorological Organization and others on June 22 - 23, 2021.

The Forum will convene national governments, development partners, and other key stakeholders, to collectively identify the need for strengthening hydromet services for sustainable development, and disaster and climate resilience. It will emphasize the critical role of hydromet and early warning services in economic sectors, such as agriculture, marine services and urban planning and highlight innovations in observation, forecasting and service delivery to communities. In plenary sessions, the status of hydromet services and way forward for strengthening them through regional collaboration will be discussed.

Due to the COVID-19 precautions, the forum will be conducted in a virtual format.
